Wednesday excesses

After publishing several posts that had been sitting in the drafts folder, and talking to a couple of people about their plans for large feats of strength in spring and summer ... and then doing some actual work ... I had a space in the day to go to the pool. Fuelled by a vast banana and half of a pain au chocolat, I headed to Freyberg.

My initial place was for about 4.2km, done as soon as possible. However, once at the pool, and finishing the other half of the pastry, I felt inspired to do a little more if my ancient frame could stand it.

In the end, the set looked like this (bear in mind I was in a pool that's 33 1/3 metres long!)

                                                                                                  Running total
6 x 166 as 33 fr/33 bk [1-4 as swim, 5-6 pull, no paddles]       1,000
200 as 33 scull/33 swim                                                            1,200
6 x 100 kick [fins] @ 1.35                                                         1,800
200 as 33 scull/33 swim                                                             2,000

400 as 33 fly/33 bk [fins]                                                           2,400
200 as 33 scull/33 bk                                                                  2,600
400 as 33 fly kick on back/33 fr swim spint [fins]                     3,000

Two rounds of
4 x 100 @1.35  pull/pull buoy
200 relaxed swim (choice)                                                           4,200

6 x 100 @ 1.35 pull/pull buoy, desc. 1-3, 4-6. All DPS               4,800

200 easy/own choice to warm down                                            5,000

At one point I was 'negotiating' lane space with another swimmer of the MAMIL type. To get around him, without having to do a huge sprint overtake, I added another two laps to one of the 4 x 100.  I also did a bit more warm-down, so the total distance was 5,133.3km.  The occasional mad sprints around the MAMIL were, although exhausting, helpful, as they took some time off the 100s, and provided some little heartrate spikes.
